Mikaela Shiffrins bid to make skiing history made more difficult by delays and schedule

An Olympic schedule that already looked tough enough just became tougher for Mikaela Shiffrin, whose quest to win five medals has dominated the build-up to the women's events in alpine skiing in Pyeongchang. The 22-year-old American is known for her calmness under pressure, but the high winds in the mountains are in danger of blowing her ambitions way off course.

At least the decision to postpone the men's downhill, the women's giant slalom and the men's Super-G earlier in the week were taken well in advance. Shiffrin was within minutes of beginning the defence of her Olympic slalom title today when the wind gusting through the Yongpyong ski resort forced a delay and then, after an hour, a cancellation. The slalom will now be raced'.
