Erdoğan: 'Germany is committing suicide'
BERLIN — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan accused the German government and media of unfair treatment and hypocrisy in an interview published Wednesday.
Speaking to the German weekly Die Zeit, Erdoan criticized Berlin’s decision to prevent him from making a speech to Turkish citizens in Germany while he visits the country for the G20 summit in Hamburg on Friday and Saturday.
“Germany is committing suicide. It’s political suicide,” Erdoan said of the decision. Asked why this was an act of suicide, he replied: “Germany has to correct this mistake.”
Germany decided to stop Erdoan addressing Turkish citizens in Hamburg to prevent him from importing “domestic political conflicts,” according to Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel.....
