Ella Mai Breaks Down Bood Up On Genius Series Verified

British singer-songwriter Ella Mai is readying her debut album on DJ Mustard's record label 10 Summers after sharing a trio of EPs in 2016 and 2017. Her biggest single to date, 'Boo'd Up,' comes from her most recent release Ready, and just peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song features production by DJ Mustard and describes the feeling of being caught up in an all-encompassing relationship.

'We tried to incorporate both our heartbeat and being boo'd up with your boo,' Ella Mai tells Genius. 'If you think about a heartbeat, like 'ba-dum ba-dum ba-dum,' we did it close enough to where it can be melodic and catchy and still make sense without it sounding like I'm talking gibberish.'
