Four-time NBA All-Star and the first overall pick in the 1983 NBA draft, he was a power forward for the Kansas Jayhawks, the Indiana Pacers and the San Antonio Spurs. He was awarded the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 1983 and was also a two-time Pac-10 Player of the Year.' He was a standout player at Washington High School in Kansas City. He was also a starter for four seasons at the University of Kansas, where he averaged 20.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, and was named an All-American in 1983.
