Famous for his sports journalism work for the New York Journal-American and the New York Sun, Graham is also remembered for his written histories of New York City professional sports teams and for his biographies of baseball players John McGraw and Lou Gehrig. After dropping out of high school, he became an amateur boxer and held a day job with the New York Telephone Company. He began his writing career as a journalist for Boxing magazine.
