Famous as both an anthropologist and a geographer, this City University of New York professor published articles in numerous academic journals, becoming one of the most frequently cited writers in social sciences and humanities publications. After graduating from St. John's College, Cambridge, he published an important, 1969 work titled Explanation in Geography.
