Between 1916 and 1962, this Harlem Renaissance author published four collections of poetry and over two dozen plays. Her best known works include "Calling Dreams," "To Your Eyes," and Plumes. After graduating from the Normal School at Atlanta University, she studied music at Ohio's Oberlin Conservatory. She published her first poetry collection, The Heart of a Woman, in 1916.
