Late Progressive Conservative who served as the 10th Premier of Alberta from 1971 to 1985. He held his first political position as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1967 to 1986. He earned a bachelor of law and arts degree from the University of Alberta in the 1950s.
