A Croatian modernist author, poet, novelist, and dramatist, he is best known for works such as Banket u Blitvi (1939), Gospoda Glembajevi (1928), and Hrvatski bog Mars (1922). He was primarily a dramatist, and he wrote theatrical works in the genres of both expressionism and realism. He studied at military academies in Hungary before volunteering for the Serbian army. In the early 1920s, he was one of the key figures associated with Plamen (The Flame), a leftist publication.
