A fiction author, screenwriter, journalist, and publisher, she wrote several short fiction collections, including Prayers of An Accidental Nature (1999) and Drought & Say What You Like (1997). For her 1999 screenplay, Drought, she received a Cinovation Screenwriting Award. Early in her career, she worked as an art columnist for The Pitch magazine. In 1984, she published her debut novel, What the Body Requires.
