British chemist who won the 1964 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, for pioneering the process of X-ray crystallography. Later, through her innovation, she was able to decipher the structure of insulin. She developed an interest in crystals at a young age, and her interest was further stoked by a scientist friend of the family, which culminated in her decision in high school to study chemistry.
