Modernist who was knighted for his services to architecture. Designed lightweight steel-and-glass structures that were energy-efficient. He studied at Sherborne School and the Architectural Association. His partnership with Norman Foster was preceded by employment with Frederick Gibberd. He and Foster handled the Willis Faber headquarters in Ipswich.
