American poet, author, and one-time South Carolina Poet Laureate whose works include Midnight to Dawn and Not Set in Stone. She also wrote television and radio dramas and published articles in numerous southern newspapers. She received a degree in English from Converse College, where she also majored in Latin and theatre.
