After winning a Young Artist Award for his work in the 2003 film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Pirkis gave an acclaimed performance as Gaius Octavian in the popular BBC and HBO series Rome. While studying theology at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge, he captained the school's soccer team.
