Zlatan Ibrahimovic officially released by Manchester United

The Swede finished as the Red Devils’ top scorer with 28 goals but an ACL injury threw his future up in the air, despite his strong season at Old Trafford.

The 35-year-old prolific forward agreed a one-year contract, with an option for second season on arrival last summer.

But Ibrahimovic had surgery on his damaged knee and appears to be well ahead of schedule as he has already been back kicking a football.

Despite it looking likely that Ibrahimovic will leave Old Trafford, his agent Mino Raiola says his client wants to stay in England.

The extension had not been triggered by United by the time the Swede suffered the injury - and he will continue his rehabilitation at the club's Carrington training base after the club offered him full use of facilities.

It is also understand that Ibrahimovic is not ruling out resigning with the Red Devils once fit - but there are no plans at the moment.
