Update on Celtics Moussa Dembele moving to Brighton

Celtic’s Moussa Dembele & Brighton

While it’s generally been a quiet Christmas Day in the world of football, one significant transfer rumour has popped up on the radar.

Sky Sports revealed that Celtic had accepted Brighton’s 18 million pound offer for French striker Moussa Dembele.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Brighton will complete the deal.

Moussa Dembele still needs to agree personal terms with Brighton if he’s to join the Seagulls and move to the Premier League.

Sky Sports delete the story

But is the story true?

Barely two hours after Sky Sports published their article claiming Brighton were close to signing Dembele, the story was pulled from the broadcasters website.

Moreover, reporters from BBC Scotland claimed they’d spoken to Celtic and the story is complete “nonsense”.

Update on Moussa Dembele’s move

On Monday evening the Guardian have posted an update on the Moussa Dembele story.

According to their sources it’s true that Brighton want to sign the French forward, however Celtic want more for the striker. Readers are told:

Brighton and Celtic are also thought to be several million pounds apart in terms of Dembele’s valuation.

Celtic are braced for a formal offer from Brighton for the 21-year-old, which could start a bidding war.

Dembele had envisaged signing for another Champions League club when he left Celtic but may downgrade those ambitions if the chance arises to play in the Premier League.

The article also notes that West Ham and Everton are monitoring the situation.

Moussa Dembele’s Celtic record this season

It’s not been the easiest season for 21-year-old Moussa Dembele.

He’s scored four goals and chipped in with three assists in the Scottish Premiership.

However Dembele has been unable to make himself a starter for Brendan Rodgers this season. That’s why Celtic are prepared to sell him.

Last season he scored 32 goals for Celtic.
