The day Mick Schumacher told his father he wanted to be a driver

The name Schumacher is synonymous with Formula 1 and always will be, and with Michael's son, Mick, making his way into the sport, it's worth looking back on the day he told his father he wanted to be a driver.

Having signed with Haas for the 2021 season, Mick Schumacher has to contend with a car that will not be in any state to battle for points this term, although he has started the year with confidence.

"I was with my father, I remember his reaction well," Mick Schumacher explained to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We were at the kart track in Kerpen, we were talking and he asked me if racing was a hobby or something I wanted to take seriously.

"I made it clear to him that it was very serious, and he and my mother have always supported me in that decision."

When asked what advice his father gave him, Mick detailed the words of his father in the same interview.

"He told me that the most important thing is that I enjoy what I do," Mick added.

"Seeing me put that into practice was very important to him. 'If you love what you do, you will do it well', that's what he said to me."
