WASHINGTON, D.C. - While the Rangers continue to wait on Adrian Beltre, they will add Jurickson Profar to the active roster, manager Jeff Banister said Friday afternoon.
The Rangers bought themselves another day to make a decision Beltre's sprained ankle by optioning LHP Dario Alvarez to Triple-A Round Rock to make room for Profar. Beltre, out of a walking boot Friday, said he was improved enough to test the ankle with some field work and batting practice.
"Playing every day day and having fun has been good for me," Profar said. "I think that's all it is: Playing every day. I know things are going to be good for me when I play."
"I feel like a found something," Profar said. "My swing has always been good from the right side, but I was always late. I was fouling off the good pitches, then getting into two-strike counts where all you can do is battle. I feel like now I'm hitting the good pitches."
"I understand that," Beltre said. "I'm trying to be smart and not selfish. I think they trust me enough that they know I will give them an honest answer. The idea is to not go on the DL, if possible."
