Harry Kane promises Ryan Mason backing before his first Tottenham match

Interim head coach Mason will take charge of Spurs for the first time this evening when they take on Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League

Mason has been made interim head coach at Spurs for the remaining seven matches of the 2020/21 season after Jose Mourinho and his staff were sacked on Monday.

The 29-year-old came through the Spurs academy with the likes of Kane, Andros TowNsend and Adam Smith and has played alongside many of the current players.

He made 70 appearances for Spurs over an eight-year spell before joining Hull City in 2016, where he was forced to retire, aged just 26, after suffering a fractured skull in a collision with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill.

In his previous role as head of player development in Tottenham’s academy, Mason has tweeted frequently glowing praise of Kane and it seems the feeling is mutual.

“Having come through the academy together I know how much it will mean to Ryan Mason to take charge of the team for the rest of the season,” he wrote. “We'll give him everything we've got for these next 7 games.”
