ExTiger Austin Jackson nets 2-year deal with Giants

DETROIT -- Former Detroit Tiger Austin Jackson has parlayed a bounce-back year with the Cleveland Indians in 2017 into a two-year deal with the San Francisco Giants.

Jackson willmake at least $6 million over the life of the contract and could earn more with incentives.

Jackson, who turns 31 next week, had tosettle for a minor-league deal with the Indians last winter after struggling in 2016. But he made the roster and hit .318 with seven home runs and an .869 OPS in 85 games. Jackson was especially effective against left-handed pitchers.

Jackson was among a number of outfielders the Tigers considered last winter to replace Cameron Maybin. The Tigers ultimately traded for Mikie Mahtook.

It's unlikely that the Tigers seriously considered Jackson this winter as his strong season with the Cleveland significantly increased his price tag.

The Tigerssigned outfielder Leonys Martinfor $1.75 million in December.
