Blue Jays debutant Ryan Borucki pitches six strong innings in loss to Astros

An MLB debut against the Houston Astros is a daunting proposition, but Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Ryan Borucki showed why he's considered the organization's top left-handed prospect'with a creditable performance in a 7-0 loss on Tuesday.

A native of'Mundelein,'Ill., Borucki went six innings in his maiden game, giving up two runs and six hits while walking four batters. He threw 95 pitches in his first Blue Jays start, with three strikeouts to his credit.

Borucki got the call to the big leagues after an impressive run through the minor league pyramid, in which he has competed at every level since the beginning of 2017. Prior'to his MLB debut Tuesday,'Borucki'spent all of this season at Triple-A Buffalo;'where he's chalked up'a 6-5 record in 13 starts, with a 3.27 ERA and 58 strikeouts.

The 24-year-old's impressive ascent through the Blue Jays' system gave'John Gibbons reason for optimism ahead of Tuesday's game, with the manager saying he hoped that Borucki could give the club "some innings" in his maiden start in the majors.'
