Allen Robinson not franchise tagged by Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars decided not to apply the franchise tag to wide receiver Allen Robinson on deadline day, according to multiple reports. There was a lot of concern that the Jaguars wouldn't apply the tag and allow Robinson to hit free agency for nothing, but the team decided the $15.9M tag was too much to keep Robinson for at least one more year.

Robinson missed all of last season after tearing his ACL in close to the first play of the game Week 1 against the Houston Texans. By all accounts Robinson's rehab has gone great, without any concerns and he's on track to participate in OTAs and training camp this summer.

While Robinson had a down season in 2016, it felt like the entire team did across the board during Gus Bradley's swan song. When Bradley was fired and current head coach Doug Marrone took over, Robinson's production sky rocketed back to what we saw during the 2015 season where he set franchise records and made the Pro Bowl.

Robinson added an element teams have to account for when he's on the field, which is forcing a team to shade a safety to his side, which ultimately will remove a defender from the box and should help the run game overall. It will be interesting to see how the Jaguars go about trying to replace what Robinson brought to the field, as he's far and away the best available free agent wide receiver on the market and banking that on a draft pick is a tough task Year 1.
