Alisah Bonaobra returns to 'X Factor UK' as wildcard act

Alisah Bonaobra’s journey on “The X Factor UK” isn’t over yet after all.

Ahead of the competition’s first live show on Saturday, Bonaobra was revealed to be one of the four wildcard acts along with Leon Mallet from the boys category, Talia Dean from the overs category and Jack and Joel from the groups category.

In a pre-recoded video, Bonaobra called herself the “comeback queen” because she thought she was already eliminated on the show more than once.

“At Six Chair Challenge, I really fought hard just to go through. I never thought that I will sing ‘Bang Bang’ wearing six-inch heels. Judges’ Houses was when Sharon told me I didn’t go through. It’s like my 'X Factor UK' [journey] is really over. My mom just told me, ‘If you believe in yourself, the people around will also believe in you.’ Now, I’m a wildcard,” she said with a huge smile on her face.

After learning that she’s still in the running to win, Bonaobra admitted in the same video that she made the most out of her short time to prepare for her live performance.

And she definitely proved this when she took the stage during the live show, performing Jordin Sparks’ “This Is My Now.” Bonaobra earned a standing ovation from the judges and audience as she hit every high note of the song.

“That song is absolutely perfect for you because this is your now and you deserve to be back on the show. It’s almost like a winner’s song. I love the power ballad with a key change from a great singer. You are a great singer and a great performer. You got great soul,” said judge Louis Walsh.

Judge Nicole Scherzinger, for her part, said Bonaobra is meant to stay on the show and she certainly proved that with her performance.

“You are my little Disney warrior princess. You just karate-chopped all through that song but you did it with grace, with poise, with strength. I freaking adore you. I look at you and I’m like, that’s my little ninja Filipina sister up there,” she said.

Sharon Osbourne, meanwhile, believes Bonaobra will be in the competition until the end.

“Everybody said in this contest that they really want this and that they really need to be here. I know your story. I know what you’ve gone through. With a voice like yours, you are going to be here until the end. I am so happy for you,” she said.

After public voting, Bonaobra is through to the next live show.
