Bio:
American politician who served in the Illinois House of Representatives and Illinois Senate before becoming a colonel and brigadier general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. After the war, he was appointed to the board of managers for the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. He was born in Brownsville, Tennessee and moved to Illinois at age 11.
