Though he is also known for his New Yorker Christmas poems and for his works of fiction and literary criticism, this New York-based writer is most famous for his sports journalism pieces. He received the 2011 PEN/ESPN Lifetime Achievement Award for Literary Sports Writing, among many other honors.
