15th century Ottoman Turkish Sultan who is commonly known as "Mehmed the Conqueror." He is remembered in history primarily for leading the conquest and siege against the city of Constantinople. The city fell in 1453 and brought an end to the Byzantine Empire. He ascended to the throne in August 1444 after undergoing years of study of subjects ranging from science and theology to statesmanship and war.
