Politician known for her position as the U.S. Representative for Connecticut's 5th congressional district beginning in January 2019. She was the first African-American woman and African-American Democrat to present Connecticut in Congress. She grew up in public housing projects in Waterbury, Connecticut. She earned her associate's degree at Naugatuck Valley Community College and her bachelor's degree at Southern Connecticut State University.
