European Film Award for Best Actor winner for his role as art museum curator Christian in 2017's The Square. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. He was then cast in the 2018 American film The Girl in the Spider's Web. In 1996, he graduated from the Danish National School of Theatre.
