Austrian composer from the classical period who is known for contributing to the development of chamber music including the piano trio and string quartet. He was a court musician for the wealthy Esterhazy family and composed a wide range of symphonies and operas.' At the age of six he moved to Hainburg to study music. After performing in choir and working freelance as a musician, he earned a job from Count Morzin as Kapellmeister or music director. He wrote his first symphonies for the ensemble and began his career as a musician.
