Pioneering Abstract Expressionist painter who was a contemporary and friend of Willem De Kooning and Jackson Pollock. He attended the American Artists School, where he became inspired by the work of Georgia O Keeffe. He was taught by Joseph Solman, who belonged to The Ten.
