Remembered for his works in the Afrikaans language, this acclaimed South African poet of the early Twentieth Century also penned novels, children's stories, travel writings, recipe books, and plays. After working as a journalist during the Second Boer War, he trained at London, England's Guy's Hospital and began a career in medicine.
