Notable for his roles in the Iranian films Born Under Libra, Under the City's Skin, and Friday's Soldiers, Foroutan went on to receive the prestigious Crystal Simorgh award for his performance in the 1998 movie Ghermez (English title: Red). After earning a psychology degree from Azad University, he began his acting career by starring as Mercedes in the 1994 film Goal.
