English soccer player and manager who achieved his greatest success as a player with Chelsea, winning UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and Football League Cup titles, among others. He was named the club's Player of the Season for the 1997-98 and 1999-00 seasons. He was born in Kensington, England and played youth soccer for Southampton from 1983 to 1985.
