Educator and conductor known for his 12 symphonies, eight operas, 17 string quartets, two cantatas, and 72 piano pieces. His works included "The Moon's Golden Horn" and "The Weird Flute." He composed music for "The Ship of Heaven," a Hugh McCrae play. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory between 1887 and 1891 with such notables as Gustav Schreck, Hans Sitt, and Oscar Paul.
