Notable for her performances in close to two dozen Hungarian films of the 1930s and 1940s, she is even more well remembered for her role in rescuing Hungarian Jews from Nazi forces during the Holocaust. For this important work, she received an Israeli title reserved for non-Jews who came to the aid of Jews: Righteous Among the Nations. She rose to fame in 1939 through her portrayal of a femme fatale character in the Hungarian movie Halalos Tavasz (English title: Deadly Spring).
