Bio:

American poet, translator, and biographer known for her translations of works by the Ancient Greek poet Sappho. Barnard's other works include Mythmakers and a verse memoir entitled Nantucket Genesis: The Tale of My Tribe. She grew up in Washington state and graduated from Oregon's Reed College. She published her debut work, A Few Poems, in 1952.
