Louisiana-born author who wrote biographies, histories, and stories set in her home state, including Monsieur Motte and Le Dame de Sainte Hermine. She received an honorary degree from Tulane University in 1915. She was born in New Orleans and, in her youth, was a pupil of Charles Gayarre, a fellow Louisiana writer and historian.
