Jazz singer of "Don't Go to Strangers" and "Save Your Love for Me" who often performed in the shadow of her better know fellow singer Etta James. Competing in a local talent contest at age fifteen brought her to the attention of Buddy Johnson, who invited her to perform with his big band.
