A twentieth-century Salvadoran poet, critic, and novelist, he became famous for his political novel One Day of Life. His other literary works include El valle de las Hamacas and Un hombre por la patria. He began writing poetry at the age of thirteen, inspired by Pablo Neruda and Federico Garcia Lorca.
