He earned a Golden Globe nomination for portraying Robert Crawley in Downtown Abbey. His starring role in the Olypics mocumentary TV show, Twenty Twelve, brought him additional fame. He also plays Henry Brown in the 2014 film Paddington. He studied at the University of Cambridge and Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
