Known best as a soccer center back defender with the Shakhtar Donetsk Ukrainian Football Club, Chygrynskiy also played one season each with the Barcelona and Metalurh Zaporizhya Football Clubs. He played his youth soccer career with the UFK Lviv Football Club and, at age seventeen, debuted in the Ukrainian Premiere League.
