English writer, playwright, and screenwriter best known for her children's books Granny Was a Buffer Girl and Dear, Nobody. Both of these books won Carnegie Awards. She studied English at the University of Durham and science at the University of Liverpool. She did per post-graduate education at the University of Sheffield.
