English poet, writer, academic, and literary critic known for his World War I-themed works. A recipient of the Queen's Gold Medal for poetry, he is remembered for such collections as Poems on Japan and An Elegy and Other Poems. He studied at Queen's College and served in the Royal Sussex Regiment during World War I.
