He played a role inTsuda, Busu, which earned him multiple awards, including a Blue Ribbon Award and a Japan Academy Prize for Newcomer of the Year in 1988. He also released albums between 1992 and 1994 and covered the song "Starless" by King Crimson in 1993. He grew up in a family of actors and debuted in the 1987 film, Totto Channel.
