American poet associated with the San Francisco Renaissance and known for a 1946 work entitled Erotic Poems. His later publications include Narcotica, Ekstasis, and Blood of the Air. He published his first poem when he was fifteen years old. Soon thereafter, he left his California high school to pursue a literary career in New York City.
