Best remembered for his romantic association with the renowned Irish playwright and fiction writer Oscar Wilde, he also had a career as a writer in his on right, publishing such poetry collections as The City of the Soul and The Placid Pug. His memoir, The Autobiography of Lord Alfred Douglas, was published in 1931. While studying at Magdalen College, Oxford, he edited a collegiate journal titled The Spirit Lamp.
