British footballer who played for Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion and began managing West Ham United in 2011. He was voted the Premier League Manager of the Month four times, in 8/2001, 11/2003, 1/2004, and 12/2006. He began his professional soccer career in the early 1970s as a center-half for the Bolton Wanderers.
