An early nineteenth-century English author, he is best remembered for such satirical novels as Nightmare Abbey and Crotchet Castle. Also a poet, he published nearly a dozen verse works, including The Monks of St. Mark and The War-Song of Dinas Vawr. He wrote his first poem around the age of ten and was pulled from formal schooling at the age of thirteen.
