Bolshevik revolutionary and one of the first members of the Politburo who was one of the more prominent victims of the "Moscow Trials" of the late 30's. He formulated the thesis of "Socialism in One State", which later would become one of the major cornerstones of Stalinism. While in New York City in 1916, he edited the newspaper Novy Mir with Leon Trotsky.
