Famous for his Guardian Prize, Whitbread Award, and Commonwealth Writers Prize-winning novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (2003), he is also notable for his numerous works of young adult fiction, which include Agent Z and the Penguin from Mars (1995) and The Real Porky Phillips (1994). After graduating from Merton College, Oxford, with a degree in English, he published his debut children's work, Gilbert's Gobstopper.
